“My name is Alison. I am in the Adult-Gerontology NP Program.

“As I was going through school, I worked as a CNA, and I just saw everything the nurses were doing, and I was just so amazed. I kind of wanted to be like them when I grew up. Nursing chose me.

“The reason I chose Rockhurst is just because it's such a flexible program. They have part-time, full-time programs. And not only that, they do something that no other college does. They find your practicum placement. So that was really the main reason I chose this program, because it takes that burden off of me, so I can focus on things that matter.

“A lot of times we're kind of hard on ourselves, and when we don't know what to expect, it can get a little hazy and scary, but there's no need for that here.

“Everything is online. There's so many instructional tools for you to use. It doesn't matter what type of learner you are. Everything's available for you in a way that you can understand the information that is given.

“And the instructors are always available. Their feedback is always beneficial. Coming in, everybody was so supportive.

“You want to be able to acquire that knowledge and apply it so that you can help others. That's one of the reasons why I'm here, because I want to be inspirational. I want to help others, but I want to make sure that I'm doing it the correct way.

“My advice to those that want to apply is go ahead and do it. This program has opened me up as a person, and I have really felt like I've grown.”
